We’re preparing for the gradual and safe return of more students, faculty and employees this September by following local and provincial guidelines and adjusting our plans to help protect our community as regulations evolve.
Here’s how we’re keeping you safe.
Ventilation upgrades: Air flow to every room has been increased, balanced and verified, and filters replaced in line with recommendations from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) for COVID-19. Air flow to all occupied spaces is entirely replaced with fresh air every 10 minutes or less. We have also implemented strict measures to reduce the spread of airborne contaminants.
Mandatory screening for campus access: Everyone coming to campus must pass a daily self-assessment on the Sheridan Alert! App.
COVID-19 Safety Training: All students and employees who are required on campus must complete mandatory training to ensure they are aware of the relevant health and safety protocols.
Contact Tracing : Sheridan conducts contact tracing if there is a suspected COVID exposure so everyone entering campus must use designated entrances and tap their onecard.
Cleaning & disinfection: We clean and disinfect frequently touched areas in common spaces at least twice daily and disinfect all Sheridan spaces once daily. In specific labs, studios, and workshops, Sheridan community members are asked to clean equipment and materials before and after use. Many spaces are disinfected using a new electrostatic spraying system, covering more high-touch areas in a fraction of the time.
Capacity limits for classrooms & shared spaces: Our classrooms, study spaces, labs, and studios are available for safe in-person activity at limited numbers, while respecting physical distancing and other safety requirements regularly reviewed by Sheridan’s health and safety teams. Signs are posted with the maximum capacities for each space. Common spaces are available for students in between classes, as are bookable spaces for individual study.
Navigation signage and physical distancing: Signs throughout the buildings are helping avoid congestion and indicate how to safely line-up and wait for classes, the cafeteria, and printers, etc.
Masks and PPE: Everyone on campus must wear a medical mask at all times, except when eating or drinking (while appropriately physically distanced). Sheridan will provide every student and employee with a medical mask.
Managing positive cases and outbreaks: Sheridan has had minimal COVID-19 cases throughout the pandemic. Working closely with local public health units, we continue to enforce strict processes for COVID-19 testing and contact tracing to contain outbreaks and reduce the risk of transmission.
Please note that these measures will change as public health guidelines evolve. For the latest protocols, please visit sheridancollege.ca/covid-19.
