Toronto-born Louise Noguchi received her MFA from the University of Windsor and her AOCA from the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. She is a professor in the Art and Art History program, a collaboration between the Sheridan Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning and University of Toronto Mississauga, where she teaches photography and performance-based art. Using video, photography, sculpture and other media, Noguchi's concepts confront the spectator's notions of identity, perception and reality. Her work has depicted wild-west rodeo skills that explore performances in trick roping, knife throwing, sharp shooting, gun spinning and tricks with a whip. More recent videos have examined tourist locations and key monuments of her Canadian and ancestral histories as locations of cultural memory and experience. Noguchi's video work has been screened at: The Courtisane Short Film and Video Festival (Brussels), Media City Film and Video Festival (Windsor), Reel Asian Film Festival (Toronto), YYZ Artists Outlet (Toronto), Centre A (Vancouver), Expo 2005 VIP Lounge, Canadian Pavilion, Aichi (Japan), Gallery of Contemporary Art, University of Colorado (Colorado Springs), Richmond Center for the Arts, Western Michigan University and the Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto). Exhibitions of Noguchi's photographic and sculptural works have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at The Power Plant (Toronto), The Contemporary Art Gallery (Vancouver), Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (Berlin) and The Deutsches Museum (Munich). Louise Noguchi's work is represented by Birch Contemporary in Toronto.
