Mary E Hofstetter C.M.
Mary E. Hofstetter, C.M. is an accomplished leader and Chief Executive Officer skilled in Change Leadership, Strategic Planning, Board Governance and Board Relations, Fundraising, Financial Management, Organization Development, Public Relations and Communications, and Customer Service. She currently works as a part-time Consultant, specializing in Governance Practices, Policies and Structures, Strategic Planning, Organizational Design and Effectiveness in the arts and culture sector. In addition to being a former President and CEO of Sheridan College, she previously held the roles of Consulting Director of Music Education at The National Arts Centre, President and CEO of The Banff Centre, General Manager and Chief Operating Officer for the Stratford Festival, and was Mohawk College’s first Vice-President, Academic.
Mary was appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada in 2013, in recognition of her service to Canada in the arts, culture and postsecondary education. In 2011, she received an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Western Ontario, and was an ASTech Honouree for her outstanding contribution to the Alberta Science and Technology Community. In 2010, she was recognized as one of the 50 Most Influential Albertans.
She holds a Master of Arts degree in English from the University of Western Ontario and an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Guelph. She also holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors Program at the Rotman School of Business, University of Toronto. She has a wide range of Board governance and leadership experience in the not-for-profit sector, having sat on/chaired numerous Boards in the arts, culture and academic sectors.
