Mechanical Technician - Industrial Millwright program coordinator Craig Brazil recently visited Changzhou Institute of Technology in China to help prepare Industrial Mechanics (IM) competitors for WorldSkills Shanghai this fall.
Brazil served as Skill Competition Manager for the event, which tasked participants with completing a series of demanding industrial mechanics modules that emphasized precision machining, fabrication, welding, assembly, alignment and troubleshooting under tight time constraints. More than half of this year's WorldSkills IM field (eight of 15 teams) participated in the three-day competition to benchmark their technical skills against international peers, while trainers and event experts were able to validate assessment criteria, competition procedures and marking systems.
"The Changzhou competition was an extremely successful and productive experience," said Brazil, who has been the IM competition manager at numerous WorldSkills — including at Sheridan in 2022 — and will oversee the event again this fall at WorldSkills Shanghai. "It strengthened international cooperation, increased competitor confidence and highlighted areas for continuous improvement."
WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 will take place Sept. 22-27 in the world's largest event centre — the National Exhibition and Convention Centre (NECC) Shanghai — and is expected to attract 1,400 competitors from 70 countries and regions across 64 skills competitions.
