Sheridan alumni earn nearly 70 nominations at the 2026 Canadian Screen Awards
Sheridan alumni have received 69 nominations at this year’s Canadian Screen Awards, earning recognition in 38 categories that span film, television and digital media and cover a full range of genres, including documentaries, sports, fiction and animated programming.
The 2026 Canadian Screen Awards will be presented May 27-31 during Canadian Screen Week. Sheridan graduates have had a strong representation at the CSAs since the awards were introduced in 2013, recognizing their talent and contributions to Canadian film, television and digital media.
“These nominations are a powerful reflection of the reach and influence of our alumni’s work and extensive contributions to Canada’s creative industries,” says Mark Jones, Dean of the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design. “The breadth of categories recognizes their exceptional talent and the strength of a Sheridan education to equip artists with the skills to succeed across platforms and help shape the next era of Canadian storytelling.”
CSA-nominated graduates who are recognized for their outstanding work in films are:
- In the category of Achievement in Casting, Stephanie Gorin (Music Theatre’ 81) is nominated for 40 Acres.
- In the category of Achievement in Editing, Jane MacRae (Advanced Television and Film ’07) is nominated for Nika & Madison.
- For Achievement in Music – Original Score, Walker Grimshaw (Bachelor of Film and Television ’18) is nominated for The Legacy of Cloudy Falls.
- Carter Buckman (Bachelor of Film and Television ’22) is nominated in the category of Achievement in Sound Mixing for Sway.
- In the category of Achievement in Sound Editing, Kristi McIntyre (Media Arts ’13) is nominated for Mile End Kicks.
- In the category of Achievement in Visual Effects, Christopher Shewchuk (Bachelor of Film and Television ’20), Luca Tarantini (Advanced Television and Film ’14) and Mike Stadnyckyj (Media Arts ’08) are nominated for work on Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie. Joining them in the category is Vineshh Vickinadas (Visual Effects ’15) who is nominated for Scared Shitless.
- In the category of Best Editing in a Feature Length Documentary, Andrew Beach (Media Arts ’16) is nominated for It’s All Gonna Break.
- Chanda Chevannes (Media Arts ’01) received a nomination for work on King’s Court in the category of Best Short Documentary.
- Shaista Roshan (Advanced Television and Film ’22) is nominated for Karupy in the category of Best Live Action Short Drama.

- In the category of Best TV Movie, Christopher Giroux (Advanced Television and Film ’09) is nominated for Pins and Needles.
- In the category of Best Comedy Series, Alethea Arnaquq-Baril (Illustration ’05) is nominated for North of North. Arnaquq-Baril is also nominated for Best Writing, Comedy for her work on the show.
- In the category of Best Lifestyle Program or Series, Daniel Birnbaum (Music Theatre Performance ’09) is nominated for Drag Brunch Save My Life.
- Jesse Scheer (Media Arts ’06) is nominated for Etalk: Phenomenon in the category of Best Biography or Arts Documentary Program or Series.
- Toni Stevens (Media Arts ’85) is nominated in the categories of Best Animated Program or Series and Best Pre-School Program or Series for work on Unicorn Academy and Rubble & Crew, respectively.
- Also nominated for work on Rubble & Crew is Dianna Basso (Art Fundamentals ’02) in the category of Best Direction.
- For Best Writing, Lifestyle or Reality/Competition, Deanne Marsh (Media Arts ’11) is nominated for Top Chef Canada.
- Kyle Parry (Media Arts '11) is nominated for the Barbara Sears Award for Best Visual Research for his work on Dark Side of the Ring.
- In the category of Best Writing, Animation, Desmond Sargeant (Media Arts ’06) is nominated for Xavier Riddle & the Museum.
- For Best Writing, Factual, Rob McCallum (Advanced Television and Film ’06) is nominated for Nintendo 64 Quest.
- Gayle Ye’s (Media Arts ’14) work on Late Bloomer is nominated for Best Photography, Comedy.
- In the category of Best Picture Editing, Factual, Ryan Monteith (Media Arts ’00) is nominated for 50,000 First Dates: A True Story.
- In the category of Best Picture Editing, Reality/Competition, Ellora Dela Fuente (Advanced Television and Film ’17), Christopher Donaldson (Media Arts ’07), Alex Marsolais-Whicher (Media Arts ’14), Jeff Perry (Advanced Television and Film ’06), and Keisha Rose (Advanced Television and Film ’19) are nominated for their work on Canada’s Ultimate Challenge.
- Also nominated for Best Picture Editing, Reality/Competition is Christopher Donaldson (Media Arts ’07) for The Traitors Canada.
- Several alumni have received nominations in the category of Best Sound, Fiction, for work on various productions. Mike Woroniuk (Media Arts ’95) is nominated for A Dance in the Snow. J.R. Fountain (Media Arts ’01) and Rob Warchol (Media Arts ’90) are nominated for Law & Order Toronto. Mike Woroniuk (Media Arts ’95) is nominated for North of North; and Jill Purdy (Media Arts ’96) and Stephen Barden (Media Arts ’95) are nominated for Small Achievable Goals.
- In the category of Best Sound, Animation, Patton Rodrigues (Media Arts ’12), Timothy Muirhead (Media Arts ’98), Luke Dante (Media Arts ’16), and Kyle Peters (Media Arts ’08) are nominated for Rubble & Crew.
- In the category of Best Visual Effects, Terry Bradley (Computer Animation ’97), James Wallace (Computer Animation ’00), Jeff Robinson (Computer Animation ’03), and Ryan Smith (Art Fundamentals ’93) are nominated for Dino Dex.
- Joining them in Best Visual Effects category are Andy Chan (Computer Animation Visual Effects ’05), Lorne Kwechansky (Computer Animation ’06), Ken Nielsen (Graphic Design’ 89), and Zhou Zuo (Computer Animation Visual Effects ’12) who are nominated for North of North.
- Also nominated for Best Visual Effects are Terry Bradley (Computer Animation ’97), Daryl Shail (Media Arts ’92), Teodora Ilie (Advanced Television and Film ’10), James Wallace (Computer Animation ’00), and Ryan Smith (Art Fundamentals ’93) who are all nominated for Odd Squad.
- In the category of Best Original Music, Factual, Lifestyle, Reality, or Entertainment, Andrew G. MacPherson (Advanced Television and Film ’06) is nominated for Dark Side of the Ring and Into the Void.
- For Best Sports Feature Segment, Matthew Dorman (Media Arts ’08) and Curry Leamen (Media Arts ’08) are nominated for Branded: The Elic Ayomanor Story. Dorman is also nominated in the category, alongside Sean Dunnam (Media Arts ’03), for Man of the City.
- In the category of Best Lead Performer, Drama Series, Supinder Wraich (Advanced Television and Film ’09) is nominated for Allegiance.
- For Best Achievement in Casting, Fiction, Stephanie Gorin (Music Theatre ’81) is nominated for North of North.
- Tanner Sawatzy (Advanced Television and Film ’16) is nominated for Best Achievement in Casting, Non-Fiction, for The Amazing Race Canada.
Alumni nominated for work in digital media round out the list of graduates:
- In the category of Best Web Program or Series, Non-Fiction, Lucius Dechausay (Advanced Television and Film ’03) is nominated for Here & Queer.
- For her work on Cows Come Home, Lindsey Middleton (Theatre and Drama Studies ’13) is nominated for Best Writing, Web Program or Series; Best Web Program or Series, Fiction; and Best Lead Performer, Web Program or Series.
- In the category of Best Picture Editing, Web Program or Series, Carroll Chiramel (Advanced Television and Film ’14) is nominated for 18 to 35.
In addition to Canadian Screen Awards, Sheridan alumni have received other top honours including the Oscars, Golden Globes, and Emmys. The Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design (FAAD) is the top animation school in Canada and continues to respond to the needs of creative industries, helping students unlock innovation and success. Most recently, FAAD launched Canada’s first master’s in animation, games, and immersive experiences. Last year, Sheridan was named as an Apple Distinguished School, launched the Honours Bachelor of 3D Animation and Emerging Technologies (3DAET), and unveiled Nova, an interdisciplinary initiative designed to explore changes in creative industries.
