Sheridan alumnae Maggie Kang wins two Golden Globes for KPop Demon Hunters

KPop Demon Hunters, the smash-hit movie co-written and co-directed by Sheridan alumnae Maggie Kang, took home a pair of Golden Globe awards on Sunday night at a ceremony in Beverly Hills, California.

The film won for Best Motion Picture – Animated and Best Original Song - Motion Picture at the 83rd edition of the awards.

Kang (Animation '04) has received plaudits for the movie, which tells the story of a fictional K-pop group that also secretly battles demons, all backed by music that has gained massive popularity, including the award-winning Golden, performed by Ejae, Audrey Nuna, Rei Ami.

Elio, co-directed by fellow Sheridan alum Domee Shi (Bachelor of Animation, '11), was also up for best animated movie.

Maggie and Domee’s nominations stand as a testament to their hard work and creativity, while also inspiring current and future students by showing how they can drive innovation and success in creative industries.”

Sheridan’s award-winning alumni have a long history of success across the creative industries. In addition to Golden Globes, our alumni have received other top honours including Oscars, Emmys and Canadian Screen Awards. The Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design is the top animation school in Canada and continues to find new ways to respond to needs of creative industries, helping students unlock innovation and success. Last year, Sheridan was named as an Apple Distinguished School, launched the Honours Bachelor of 3D Animation and Emerging Technologies (3DAET), and unveiled Nova, an interdisciplinary initiative designed to explore changes in creative industries.
