Sheridan is hosting a free virtual conference, Life After Graduation, on April 26 for its international students and recent international alumni to prepare them for life beyond graduation and help them build successful and fulfilling careers in Canada.

The conference, which is part of Sheridan’s ongoing commitment to provide a seamless and successful international student experience, will comprise expert panels, presentations, and workshops with a focus on issues that are specific to international students who are about to graduate or who have recently graduated.

Life After Graduation is being co-hosted by Sheridan Alumni and Sheridan’s Career Integrated Learning and Student Affairs teams, and is sponsored by TD Insurance. Registration is open to community members and students from other postsecondary institutions.Life after Graduation promotional flyer with students jumping

Students will learn from Regulated International Student Immigration Advisors about the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), which is the first step in their journey following graduation. They will receive guidance from experts in understanding Canadian culture in the workplace, networking via LinkedIn, hiring processes, and the job search tools available to them as they look for employment opportunities in their new country.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to get informed about pathways to Canadian permanent residency status and those who are interested in making Canada their forever home will be contacted for a follow-up Q&A session with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

A panel of accomplished Sheridan alumni, who found success in Canada after arriving as international students, will share their experiences with the participants and talk about how they got their career breaks after graduation.

“At Sheridan, we are committed to the success and well-being of all our students. Part of that commitment is ensuring that our students are provided with guidance, tools and relevant programming to successfully navigate through their Sheridan journey and well beyond,” says Elena Shik, Sheridan’s Associate Director, International Services.

Sheridan and its community partners are leading efforts to bring in positive change in the lives of international students. Their extensive consultations, including an International Student Summit in July last year, resulted in the creation of the Brampton Charter for Improving the International Student Experience. The forthcoming International Students’ Conference meets many of the Charter’s goals, such as Creating Academic and Wrap-Around Supports for Learners, Providing Opportunities for Legal and Reliable Work, and Championing Well-Defined and Transparent Pathways to Citizenship for International Students.
