Sheridan is proud to announce that three students from its Pilon School of Business (PSB) won the top prize for the first time at the Scotiabank Vanier College National Marketing Case Competition, which took place at the Marriott Hotel in Montreal from March 3-5, 2023.

Jade-Renee Alcorn (
Business Marketing), Rasleen Kaur Sandhu (Business Marketing), and Andres Segura Pallares (Advertising and Marketing Communications) joined PSB faculty coaches Carol Bureau and Stacey Sheehy to form the winning Sheridan team.

The inter-collegial marketing case competition offered Business Administration students from across Canada an opportunity to apply what they learn in the classroom to a real-world business experience. Diploma students from 23 colleges came together and participated in the competition. They analyzed unique business cases and problems and presented their marketing plan before a panel of expert judges. Groups were judged on their ability to identify the key issues facing the company, the quality of their analysis, the calibre and creativity of the alternatives generated, and their ability to support their recommendation with a strong implementation plan. The Sheridan team successfully made it to the finals after a strong performance in the divisional rounds.

"My team and I were exhilarated to find out we won gold—a first for Sheridan," said Kaur Sandhu, a second-year student on the team. “Our final case was challenging, but we trusted each other and worked in sync under the limited time we had. We had spent weeks training with our coaches to develop and present a strong marketing plan. Clearly, all those early Sunday mornings paid off!”

The Scotiabank Vanier College National Marketing Case Competition is an annual event that started in 2006. The competition not only provides students with a unique learning experience that helps them stand out in today's competitive workforce, but it is also an opportunity to network with the business community and some of the brightest marketing talent in Canada.

"We couldn't be prouder of our Sheridan students," said Sheehy, professor of Creative Advertising and Marketing at Sheridan. "Our team impressed the judges with their innovative marketing solution and presentation amidst a sea of excellent presentations from talented students at the competing colleges. Seeing how much dedication and hard work the students put in before the competition is inspiring. They were eager to compete at a high level, and they delivered."

"Opportunities like this showcase the quality of experience and skills we gain at Sheridan," added Alcorn. "It's a great institution to hone our abilities and challenge ourselves, and so by the time we graduate, we already have the network and hands-on experience to excel in the real world."
