Nearly 1,000 students from Halton and Peel Catholic and public high schools visited Sheridan
last week to attend recruitment events designed to promote programs and provide a glimpse
of college life.
Spotlight Sheridan featured workshops infused with Sheridan's unique experiential learning
focus across multiple disciplines, including nursing and healthcare; policing and forensics;
makeup and creative arts; Indigenous learning and community development; and engineering and
information technology. This year marked the first time that students in Grades 9-10 participated
in the Spotlight Sheridan workshops, which have previously been attended by students in Grades 7-8.
Testing the Trades engaged students in meaningful hands-on activities and discussed trades and
tech pathways to careers in welding, CNC machining, plumbing, construction, electrical and
engineering. The interactive and educational event allowed students to examine potential career
paths in greater detail while engaging with industry experts.
The Spotlight Sheridan and Testing the Trades initiatives were funded by
Sheridan's Dual Credit program, with support from
Sheridan's recruitment team
and the
Magna School for the Skilled Trades
.
Several Spotlight Sheridan workshops were facilitated by Sheridan graduates and students
Ashantee Jones-Okere (Child and Youth Care '26), Chantille Millene
(Advertising and Marketing Communications - Management '26) and Kylee Bryan
(Social Service Worker).
