Sheridan was pleased to welcome Deepak Anand, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security (MCURES) and Member of Provincial Parliament Mississauga-Malton, to Trafalgar Campus for a visit highlighting the college’s research and innovation hub, Generator at Sheridan.

During his visit, Anand met with members of Sheridan’s research leadership team and toured three research centres: the Centre for Applied AI, the Centre for Elder Research, and the Screen Industries Research and Training Centre (SIRT). Each stop showcased Sheridan’s commitment to impactful, interdisciplinary research and innovation that supports industry, community and societal advancement.

A particular focus of the visit was SIRT’s sector-leading work with virtual human characters and their broad applications across artificial intelligence (AI)-driven platforms, supporting a wide variety of sectors like the creative industries and healthcare. Anand engaged with researchers to learn how these cutting-edge technologies are being used to enhance education, storytelling and immersive media experiences.

“We’re grateful to Parliamentary Assistant Anand for taking the time to visit and learn about our work,” said Dr. Vicki Mowat, Dean of Research at Sheridan. “Engagements like this are critical to strengthening the connection between government, academia and industry in driving progress.”
