Sheridan research technologist Mohamed Kasim and Generator at Sheridan Director of Research and Innovation Carolyn Moorlag conduct a presentation at the podium during a Canadian Foundation for Innovation eventSheridan’s thought leadership in applied research was in the spotlight at the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) networking event in Toronto in June. This prestigious event brings together CFI Board Members, Directors and leading voices in Canada’s research and innovation ecosystem for an evening of connection and knowledge exchange.

Representing Sheridan, Dr. Carolyn Moorlag, Generator at Sheridan’s Director of Research and Innovation, and Mohamed Kasim, Research Technologist, delivered remarks highlighting how state-of-the-art manufacturing infrastructure funded by CFI is enabling cutting-edge interdisciplinary work at the Centre for Intelligent Manufacturing (CIM) and the Centre for Applied Artificial Intelligence (CAAI), two renowned Generator at Sheridan research centres.

Dr. Moorlag’s remarks showcased how Sheridan is applying research to solve real-world challenges, helping industry and community partners improve productivity, reduce waste and create safer workplaces. One such project was a collaboration with local manufacturer Vision Coatings Ltd, where an innovative automation prototype was designed and constructed, and demonstrated a new filling process for proprietary insulation in window framing. The resulting process for high energy efficiency window framing is being successfully implemented into the company’s manufacturing operations.

The opportunity to speak at the event underscores Sheridan’s growing national presence in applied research and exemplifies the impact of CFI investment in colleges. By supporting access to specialized equipment and facilities, CFI funding is accelerating Sheridan’s ability to foster innovation and deliver solutions with tangible benefits to industry and society.

CFI is a non-profit corporation that invests in research infrastructure at Canadian universities, colleges, research hospitals and non-profit research institutions.
