Driving forward research opportunities in life sciences

Life Sciences Ontario (LSO) visited Generator at Sheridan’s spaces for research, innovation and entrepreneurship at the Trafalgar Road Campus on Tuesday to discuss opportunities to engage and innovate with LSO’s 230 plus member network across sectors like agriculture, medical and environmental technologies.

Following a tour of the research labs in the Centre for Elder Research (CER) and the Centre for Applied AI (CAAI), LSO’s Andy Donovan, VP Strategic Partnerships, and Sharanya Rajesh, Manager of Marketing and Communications, spoke with Research and Entrepreneurship Centres including CER, CAAI and the Centre for Intelligent Manufacturing about ways of leveraging Generator’s strength in collaboration and expertise in research and development to drive life sciences innovation.

This includes research from CER that explores music and meditation to support over‑extended frontline healthcare workers and their care of patients and understanding factors affecting food insecurity among older adults in Hamilton, Halton and Peel Regions, and CAAI’s research that looks at leveraging AI to create an automated chronic pain management system that supports patient care and an AI-powered stethoscope that assists with medical assessment and triaging.

LSO is a member-funded, non-for-profit organization that is dedicated in advancing the success of Ontario’s life sciences sector through policy work, advocacy, education, mentorship and networking, and promoting its innovation locally, nationally and internationally.
