Sheridan is launching a new Biotechnology diploma program that prepares students for technical careers in laboratory, production and quality assurance roles within the biotechnology sector.

Offered through Sheridan’s Faculty of Applied Science and Technology (FAST), the two-year diploma program combines scientific theory with extensive practical training in chemistry, microbiology and molecular biology. Students will develop hands-on laboratory skills while learning the techniques and processes used in modern biotechnology settings.

Canada’s bioeconomy is expected to need 65,000 more workers by 2029, highlighting the growing demand for graduates with biotechnology training.

“Sheridan’s Biotechnology program will equip graduates with the laboratory expertise, technical foundation and industry-relevant experience required to support the development and production of life-changing medicines.”

“As the biopharmaceutical sector continues to advance innovative therapies and manufacturing technologies, the need for skilled talent remains critical,” said Julie Henao, General Manager, RBI Resilience Biotechnologies Inc. “Sheridan’s Biotechnology program will equip graduates with the laboratory expertise, technical foundation and industry-relevant experience required to support the development and production of life-changing medicines.”

Throughout the program, students will prepare biological samples, conduct experiments, and analyze results using industry-relevant methods. Lab-based courses provide exposure to biotechnology equipment and analytical instruments used to study biological systems and support production and testing processes.

Students will also explore how biotechnology contributes to solutions in healthcare, food and agriculture, environmental sustainability, and industrial innovation. Applied coursework and collaborative projects will help learners connect scientific concepts to real-world challenges while developing the technical and analytical skills valued by employers.

Graduates will be prepared for roles such as Biotechnology Laboratory Technician, Biomanufacturing Technician, Quality Control Technician, Biotechnology Production Technician, and Environmental Biotechnology Technician.
