New Massage Therapy program provides faster path to RMT designation
Sheridan is launching a new program this spring that provides students with the fastest path towards becoming a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT).
The six-semester Massage Therapy advanced diploma program features a fast-track option that allows students to earn their credential in two years. Students who already have a degree in athletic therapy, kinesiology or osteopathy can complete the program even quicker through a pathway that enables them to enter the program in the fourth semester and complete the program in the evening and weekends.
Graduates of Sheridan's Massage Therapy program will be prepared and eligible to write the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) examination to become qualified as an RMT. The program is also designed to meet standards of the Canadian Massage Therapy Council for Accreditation (CMTCA), and experiential learning hours can be logged towards certification from the Canadian Sports Massage Therapists Association (CSMTA.)
“We're pleased to offer a unique pathway into the profession, both for learners beginning their applied health journey and for those upskilling from related fields.”
– Dr. Maryam Niapour, Associate Dean, School of Applied Health, Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies
“Demand for massage therapy is projected to grow across Canada as our population ages, more people seek non-pharmacological interventions, and well-being moves to the centre of everyday life,” says Dr. Maryam Niapour, Associate Dean, School of Applied Health, Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies. “We’re pleased to offer a unique pathway into the profession, both for learners beginning their applied health journey and for those upskilling from related fields. What differentiates our program is its breadth and depth — sport injury, oncology, chronic conditions, special populations, and geriatrics — delivered through an integrated, inclusive, and evidence-informed approach.”
Other highlights of Sheridan's Massage Therapy program include a business and entrepreneurial focus that prepares students for self-employment and clinic ownership; more than 650 hours of supervised clinical placement, including 320 hours in a student-led clinic within Sheridan's Centre for Healthy Communities; and opportunities for interprofessional learning and collaboration with students in Sheridan's Clinical Kinesiology, Athletic Therapy, Kinesiology and Osteopathy degree programs.
Registration is now open for both Spring 2026 (May) and Fall 2026 (September) intakes. Learning will primarily take place in person at Sheridan's Davis Campus in Brampton, although content in some courses will also be available online. Most courses in the final three semesters will be delivered on evenings and weekends to accommodate students who are maintaining a practice while pursuing their Massage Therapy credential.
