Theatre Sheridan presents 2024/25 season lineup
A new season of Theatre Sheridan is marked by a suite of fan favourites, new works, and an exciting new partnership.
The 2024/25 season highlights the creativity, innovation, and artistic growth of students studying in Sheridan’s Honours Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance and Technical Production for the Performing Arts Industry programs.
Over the past five decades, Theatre Sheridan has earned a reputation for excellence in nurturing and showcasing the talents of aspiring theatre artists. The latest season continues to be based on a forward-thinking approach to the theatre canon.
New this year, Sheridan has partnered with Toronto-based Factory Theatre to present its early-stage musical development program, First Drafts. Now in its fifth year, First Drafts is a series of musicals that aim to reimagine, reconstitute and reanimate the Western musical theatre canon, making space for underrepresented voices and stories. These workshop presentations will premiere 45-minute excerpts of three never-before-seen scripts in their earliest stages of development.
Another initiative, The Musical Development Project, offers a unique glimpse into the creative process, showcasing collaborations between Sheridan students and artists from around the world. These shows will offer audiences the chance to see new musicals in their final stages of development.
Both First Drafts and Musical Development Project encapsulate Sheridan’s commitment to train exceptional musical theatre artists and support diverse work and artists in our community.
Full-scale productions set for this season’s winter lineup include Big Fish, alongside a mystery show to be announced next month. Musicals set to be performed in April include Heathers: The Musical and Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812.
“Our students have played a role in every stage of the planning process, and I can’t wait for audiences to experience the productions being presented as part of this year’s Theatre Sheridan season,” says Chris Scholey, Theatre Sheridan producer. “We’re incredibly grateful for the support of our patrons and their love of musical theatre. It’s through their generosity, that we’re able to nurture the next generation of theatre talent.”
In addition to the full lineup of musicals being presented by Theatre Sheridan, theatregoers are also invited to see Sheridan students perform in their end-of-year showcases, such as Pop Critiques, Writers' Showcase, and more.
