New research, innovation and entrepreneurship spaces at Sheridan enhance campus-community collaboration and creativity
Sheridan has unveiled new spaces in its Trafalgar Road Campus that encourage and foster collaboration and creativity in research, innovation and entrepreneurship (RIE).
Approximately 10,000 square feet of interdisciplinary space will enhance Generator at Sheridan’s capacity to partner on purpose-driven collaborations and respond to community and industry needs.
Generator continues to provide expertise and talent through Sheridan’s faculty, staff, students and Research and Entrepreneurship Centres, enabling organizations to become more productive, competitive and impactful. With these dedicated RIE spaces at the Trafalgar Road Campus, external partners are provided increased access to Generator’s innovative labs and technology, while also sharing new ideas and knowledge with our skilled researchers in a collaborative and meaningful way.
Sheridan’s faculty and staff researchers and renowned Research and Entrepreneurship Centres will reap the benefits of having dedicated spaces that will enable greater opportunities for engagement and interdisciplinary approaches.
“The addition of new interdisciplinary spaces is an exciting milestone for Sheridan signaling the further evolution of our ecosystem,” said Dr. Janet Morrison, President and Vice Chancellor. “Research, innovation and entrepreneurship continues to be a priority area of impact at Sheridan, a driver of academic innovation that supports meaningful outcomes for our students, faculty and partners. These spaces are a wonderful example of the efforts made in both supporting our researchers and serving our communities. "
“I'm thrilled to see this new space come to life for Generator at Sheridan,” said Andrea England, Vice Provost, Research. “With this much-needed space to nurture innovation and creativity, we hope to foster a dynamic environment for our faculty, staff, students and partners where research, innovation and entrepreneurship pursuits can continue to grow and thrive.”
Features of the new spaces include:
- New satellite lab for the Screen Industries Research and Training (SIRT) Centre. Funded by the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and Ministry of Colleges and Universities Ontario Research Fund (ORF), this lab expands SIRT’s renowned expertise in driving creative and technological advancements in film, television, interactive digital media, and exploring innovative applications of these technologies, from Pinewood Toronto Studios to Sheridan’s Trafalgar Road Campus.
- Refreshed lab space for the Centre for Elder Research that continues their work on innovative approaches to enhancing the lives of older Canadians.
- Communal and multi-functional rooms will host project teams in RIE activities among faculty, staff, students, Research and Entrepreneurship Centres and partners.
