Sheridan's Canadian Music Theatre Project presents an evening with multi Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown

Sheridan College’s Canadian Music Theatre Project (CMTP) and Michael Rubinoff, its Producing Artistic Director, are proud to present an evening with three-time Tony Award-winning composer and lyricist Jason Robert Brown. Brown will play at the historic Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto on April 27.

For this unique performance, he'll be joined by his band and special guests, Sheridan alumna Chilina Kennedy (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Broadway) and Tony Award nominee, Jenn Colella (Come From Away, original cast) incorporating an eclectic mix of material from throughout his acclaimed career, along with works from his new album “How We React and How We Recover.” 

Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the CMTP and the development of new musicals.

Brown is the renowned composer and lyricist of musicals such as Songs for a New World (1995), Parade (1998), The Last Five Years (2002), 13 (2008), The Bridges of Madison County (2013) and Honeymoon In Vegas (2014).

“Jason Robert Brown is recognized as one of the world’s leading composer/lyricists. We are in the midst of a renaissance in the Canadian music theatre community, and Jason’s work has been a huge inspiration to me and Canadian writers and composers,” said Rubinoff. “This will be a very special celebration of contemporary musical theatre, and a must-see event for musical theatre lovers.”

“I’m thrilled to be returning to Toronto and to be joined by Chilina Kennedy and Jenn Colella,” said Brown. “It’s particularly meaningful that proceeds from the event will benefit the development of new musicals, contributing to Canada’s vibrant musical theatre community.”

An Evening With Jason Robert Brown will take place on April 27 at the Winter Garden Theatre. Tickets are now available at ticketmaster.ca and range from $36 to $118 (excluding fees).


Jason Robert Brown is the Tony Award-winning composer and lyricist of ParadeThe Bridges of Madison CountyThe Last Five YearsSongs for a New World13 and Honeymoon In Vegas and tours the world with his band, singing and playing songs from his shows and his solo albums Wearing Someone Else’s Clothes and How We React and How We Recover. He's working on two upcoming new musicals, The Connector and Mr. Saturday Night starring Billy Crystal. He lives in New York City with his wife, composer Georgia Stitt, and their two daughters.

Chilina Kennedy has just finished playing Dina in the International Tour of The Band’s Visit after playing Carole in Broadway’s Beautiful: The Carole King Musical for over 1,200 performances. Her credits include: Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar (Broadway, Stratford, La Jolla), Pheobe D’Ysquith in A Gentleman’s Guide To Love And Murder at Hartford Stage/Old Globe San Diego (Hartford and San Diego Outer Critics Circle nominations), three seasons each with the Stratford and Shaw Festivals, the World Premiere of The Lord of the Rings (Toronto, Mirvish) and Sophie in the first U.S. National Tour of Mamma Mia!. Chilina has performed in concert with Stephen Schwartz, Jason Robert Brown and Colm Wilkinson. She is also the Artistic Producer of Toronto’s Eclipse Theatre Company and has a debut album titled "What You Find In A Bottle."

Jenn Colella originated the role of Captain Beverley Bass in Come From Away. Aside from Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk Awards and a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, Colella received Craig Noel, Helen Hayes, and Dora Awards for the pre-Broadway productions of Come From Away. She has been previously seen on Broadway in If/Then, Chaplin, High Fidelity and Urban Cowboy (Outer Critics Circle Award nomination), Off-Broadway in Beebo Brinker Chronicles, Lucky Guy, Slut, and Closer Than Ever. Her select regional credits include Come From Away (La Jolla Playhouse, Ford's Theatre, Toronto), Peter Pan, (Sacramento Music Circus & PCLO) and Side Show (Kennedy Center). TV credits include "Feed the Beast," "Elementary," "All My Children," "Rescue Me," "The Good Wife," “The Code,” “Madam Secretary,” and “Evil.” She has been seen on film in Uncertainty. Colella is an MFA Acting graduate of UC Irvine.
