Sheridan and Industry Partners Unveil New Program Aimed at Tackling Skills Shortage
Sheridan’s Continuing and Professional Studies division is pleased to announce a partnership with power transmission leaders to offer an intensive 16-week, Industrial Distribution Program (IDP) focused on the distribution of bearings, power transmission products and other industrial parts. The program comprises 8 weeks in class, followed by an 8-week paid work placement.
The Sheridan IDP will be sponsored by an industry sector educational partnership with the following leading manufacturers and distributors of premium power transmission products: NTN Bearing Corporation of Canada, Tsubaki of Canada Ltd., Continental, Regal Beloit Corporation and BDI Canada Inc. Instructors from each organization will present workshops as part of the IDP Curriculum.
Courses will focus on the key functional disciplines relevant to distribution, giving students the opportunity to link classroom instruction with hands-on training in a company within the industrial machinery segment. Course workshops will feature distribution management, territory sales, marketing, negotiation skills, inventory management, sales management, human resources, leadership and information technologies.
Upon completion of the program, students will have the opportunity to apply for 8-week paid work placements with leading manufacturers and industrial parts distributors of bearings and mechanical power transmission products. The unique curriculum offered at Sheridan College will be designed to provide students with the information, knowledge and skills that are highly valued by potential employers in the industrial distribution and manufacturing sector.
The program will be delivered at Sheridan's Davis Campus in Brampton, commencing on January 6, 2020. An information fair is taking place on November 14, 2019 at Sheridan’s Davis Campus, Room H153, from 1pm - 4pm and 6pm - 9pm to enable students to learn more about the curriculum and work placement opportunities.
"NTN has a long-standing commitment to corporate social responsibility and always takes an active role in the communities in which we do business. We are excited about the opportunity for NTN to partner with power transmission industry leaders in Canada to enable students at Sheridan College to advance quickly from the Industrial Distribution Program into a career in the bearing transmission industry."
-Paul Meo, President and CEO, NTN Bearing Corporation of Canada
“Sheridan has long recognized its role in preparing graduates who can meet the emerging needs of industry. We’re committed to engage with employers and our communities to strengthen learning-integrated work, and co-create new approaches for hands-on learning and continual development. The Industrial Distribution Program is a perfect example of this commitment in action. It also exemplifies the agility and capacity of our Continuing and Professional Studies team to work effectively with industry partners to meet their reskilling, upskilling and employment pipeline needs.”
-Ms. Hazel McCallion, Chancellor of Sheridan College
“We are very excited to be partnering with Sheridan College. The Industrial Distribution Program will allow us to acquire a skilled and effective workforce by targeting new workers who will have a greater propensity and incentive to stay with a company in their community. This program will allow us to hire and build people out of a program and into a job, which is an excellent value proposition for Tsubaki.
-Mr. Jos Sueters, Vice President, Tsubaki of Canada Limited
“The Industrial Distribution Program is a dynamic educational program that will broaden the knowledge of many students coming into the power transmission market place and provide Continental ContiTech with a source of well-trained job candidates to support our future business growth.”
-Ms. Cindy Russell, Sales Director Canada, Continental ContiTech
“The industrial distribution program will be of great benefit to Regal Beloit Canada and to the power transmission industry because it will help develop a pipeline of new employees for both immediate and long-term hiring needs, as a large percentage of our workforce approaches retirement age. This educational partnership will provide students with access to the skills training valued by business like Regal Beloit, and will allow them to enter employment better prepared to meet their employer’s expectations.”
-Mr. Matt McCloy, Director of Sales & Marketing, Regal Beloit Canada ULC
The Industrial Distribution Program is going to be invaluable to the power transmission market, where there is a shortage of skilled workers in customer service roles. BDI is excited to partner with Sheridan College to construct a joint curriculum and offer work experiences to students interested in kick-starting their career in the industrial distribution sector.”
-Ms. Vanessa Antonoff, Branch Manager, BDI Canada Inc.
