Two Sheridan Student Documentaries to Air on CBC's Absolutely Toronto
Sheridan is excited to announce that two documentaries by Sheridan Honours Bachelor of Film and Television (BFTV) students have been licensed to air on CBC’s Absolutely Toronto on August 18 at 7 p.m. This marks the first time that films by BFTV students have been chosen to air on the show.
The two student documentaries are Us = Them, written and co-directed by Daniela Pinto, co-directed by Kyle Smith and produced by Emily Rennie, and Urban Gold, directed by Sean M. Cullen and produced by Chyann Maracle. Prior to each documentary showing, a short interview with the filmmakers will air.
The short documentary Us = Them tells the story of a gay Muslim man, who must conceal his identity in the film for safety reasons. The film highlights the struggles he faces caught between these two identities.
Urban Gold explores the world of unconventional beekeepers in downtown Toronto, and how both bees and local producers can thrive in unlikely urban environments.
“Our students bring so much lived experience and imagination to their filmmaking. I’m regularly humbled and inspired by the clarity of voice and vision that comes from their work with our tremendous team of faculty and production support staff,” says Maija Saari, Associate Dean of Film and Television. “It truly is a collaborative effort that we’re very proud to support. We are thrilled to have our students’ work reach broader audiences through our national broadcaster.”
Congratulations to the student teams behind these two documentaries.
