Doors Officially Open on new Skilled Trades Centre at Sheridan's Davis Campus
Sheridan employees and students, along with local politicians, community partners and special guests, gathered yesterday to celebrate the official opening of the Skilled Trades Centre at the Davis Campus in Brampton.
In her remarks, Dr. Mary Preece, President and Vice Chancellor, heralded the new building as a testament to Sheridan’s commitment to the skilled trades: “While we move forward in our evolution, we remain true to our roots, which include hands-on, applied education, and a steadfast commitment to preparing the skilled tradespersons who are fundamental to this province’s economic well-being and future growth.”
Among the speakers were STC student Bryce Melvin, Mayor Linda Jeffrey, MP Sonia Sidhu, MPP Amrit Mangat, and The Hon. Harinder Malhi, Minister for the Status of Women. Mayor Jeffrey noted that “the growth of Brampton and Sheridan over time are inextricably linked. Today, we’re celebrating the work that Sheridan is doing to build a better Brampton and a better Ontario.”
During the event, Chancellor Hazel McCallion paid tribute to The Honourable William G. Davis, the campus’ namesake, former Premier of Ontario, and founder of the Ontario college system. Together, he and Chancellor McCallion unveiled a bust of himself created by Sheridan alumna and current faculty member, Jessica Cooper.
