Peer Mentors are Students Helping Students. Peer Mentors work in all departments of Student Services, providing invaluable assistance to fellow students. They have top academic skills and are genuinely interested in helping other students succeed at Sheridan!

New General Elective - HUMN13912G Leadership in Action: Engaging the Student Leader

This course seeks to provide students with a unique service based learning experience.  The intention of the course is to foster civic engagement and leadership within Sheridan, while at the same time meeting the internal needs of the academic community.

The course description for HUMN13912G Leadership in Action: Engaging the Student Leader:
Students gain a theoretical and applied understanding of leadership, peer mentoring, and collaborative learning in the context
of higher education. Utilizing project management skills, students develop leadership projects in areas of service to the
Sheridan community. They may develop projects in a number of diverse areas from improving student life to using the
expertise of their program area to serve the needs of the Sheridan community. Through a combination of interactive
lectures, role-plays, collaborative research and presentations, students develop competencies in interpersonal
communication, learn strategies for student engagement and foster leadership skills. Upon completion of this course,
students may be eligible for placement directly within peer mentor positions in Student Services.
