The Accessible Learning Services Office facilitates equal access for eligible students with disabilities definition by coordinating reasonable academic accommodations and support services. Accommodation plans and services are tailored to correspond with the disability related needs of each student and are determined based on the documentation provided and program specific requirements. We continually strive to cultivate a college culture that is sensitive and responsive to the needs of students. Emphasis is placed on students' ability and independence to empower them to realize their academic potential and personal responsibilities.
Practice and Service Guidelines
Access to Accommodations Related to Individual Education Plans
An I.E.P. will provide students with some or interim access to accommodation options. An I.E.P. does not provide information related to accommodations that might be required at a post-secondary level as this document has been prepared for students studying at the secondary level.
As such, at Sheridan we will require updated and additional documentation from a licensed practitioner that outlines accommodations required for the post-secondary level. This would normally take the form of a psycho-educational assessment completed within the last five years and/or other recent medical/documentation.
Accessible Learning Services Practice and Services Guidelines
Sheridan believes that all qualified students should have the opportunity to be successful in their college program. We support the student’s right and responsibilities to self advocate and encourage the building of independence.
Get a “step up” on your transition to Sheridan by attending our five day Summer Program (STEPS). Targetted to students with Specific Learning Disabilities, the program will help familiarize you with the Sheridan environment while preparing you to become a successful student.
