Mission

To continue to be at the forefront of Interior Design education, incorporating a strong historical and theoretical approach of design with emphasis on a hands-on approach, a strong connection to technology and an integration of knowledge both technical and practical.

Program Information

The Bachelor of Applied Arts (Interior Design) Program at Sheridan provides four years of full-time study for those seeking a professional career in the field of Interior Design and related industries. The program features comprehensive computer software training, the development of technical and design skills for a variety of building types, an awareness of professional business practice, and academic courses in every semester.

The varied academic background and professional experience of our faculty provides students with diverse design perspectives and real world solutions, which brings excellence to our classrooms. A practical, hands-on approach is a leading feature of the program, which includes educational field trips, and a co-op placement giving students a working knowledge of the industry prior to graduation and results in the development of a strong portfolio of individual designs.

The carefully created curriculum focuses on the most important areas of interior design:

  • Social/Environmental Responsibility – Designing environmentally friendly, all-inclusive spaces in a global context.
  • Concept Development – Identifying and analyzing client needs, applying design fundamentals, researching precedences and developing concepts for various sectors.
  • Technical Skills – Developing both manual and digital drafting, drawing, rendering and presentation skills using various media.
  • Business Practice – Studying business management for the design industry.
  • Communication and Professionalism – Developing oral, written, visual and interpersonal skills.

The program is recognized by The Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO) and while studying at Sheridan, all students benefit from ARIDO student membership.  The program is also a member of the Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC) and faculty are members of the Alliance of Canadian Educators in Interior Design (ACEID).
