Spring/Summer 2013 Semester

Welcome to the Spring/Summer 2013 semester! Sheridan wants your transition to be a smooth one. Below is a list of the things you need to do to get started. Remember - school starts on Monday, May 6th, 2013.

As always, if you have questions or need additional assistance, please review our FAQ’s (new students/ returning students) OR contact the Student Advisement Centre at askanadvisor@sheridancollege.ca.

BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS:

• Get your student photo ID card - your oneCARD
• Pay your fees to ensure you are registered in classes
• Log into AccessSheridan and check your Webmail for important info from the College
• Visit myotr.sheridancollege.ca for key start of term information
• View your timetable online at myStudent Centre
• Register online for electives on the week of April 15 (if necessary)
• Review program specific start of term information from your faculty
• Apply for online Advanced Standing (if necessary)
• Identify or reconnect with Accessible Learning Services (formerly Disability Services)
• Become familiar with Sheridan’s Policies and Procedures
• Review your checklist to ensure you have taken care of everything (new students/returning students)
• Review your grades and academic standing online at myStudent Centre (returning students only)
• Go to parking.sheridancollege.ca for information on parking and obtaining a parking pass
• Obtain your GO Transit sticker (if necessary)
• Visit IT's Tech Essentials page for information on connecting to technology and online services at Sheridan.

ONCE SCHOOL STARTS:

• Print your timetable from myStudent Centre
• Make changes to your timetable (if necessary)
• Purchase your textbooks
• Apply for Sheridan’s Tuition Set-Aside Bursary  (if necessary)
• Log into SLATE to view course information and materials
• Learn more about the services that are available to support your academic and personal success
• Review your Health and Dental Plan
•  

PROGRAM SPECIFIC STARTUP INFORMATION:
Program specific start-up information will be listed here on an ongoing basis. Be sure to check this page periodically to see if there are any updates for your program.

 TIMETABLES:
Postsecondary students who have paid their fees are able to add, drop or swap courses online using a new service from the Office of the Registrar. Students can make changes to their timetable by logging on to myStudent Centre .

For the Spring/Summer 2013 Term, access to timetables and the Add/Swap/Drop services will open on different days for each campus. The different opening days will not impact the choice of courses and time slots available to students. However, it will speed up the process, reduce the number of technical issues and free up more resources to assist students when required.  

 To access your timetable – log into myStudent Centre with your user name and password*, and follow the instructions below:

• Click on the Enroll link under Academics
• Click on Weekly Calendar View – your timetable is date sensitive; fill in ‘Week of:’ as 05/06/2013
• Returning postsecondary students will be able to swap and drop classes online,via myStudent Centre. The Add/ Swap/ Drop facility will open on the week of April 15. Classes can be added or swapped until Friday, May 10, 2013 and dropped until Friday, May 17, 2013.

ADVANCED STANDING
If you have taken courses at another college or university you may be eligible for Advanced Standing (an exemption from one or more of your Sheridan courses). To get more information about applying for Advanced Standing, visit the myotr.sheridancollege.ca/mypathways.html

GENERAL EDUCATION, BREADTH AND PROGRAM ELECTIVES:
Online selection of cross college general education course electives will begin on the week of April 15. Selecting your elective early will provide you with the most elective options. If you are required to select an elective class, you will receive notification via myStudent Centre. Visit mytimetable.sheridaninstitute.ca for more information on electives.

TEXTBOOKS AND SUPPLIES

You will need a copy of your timetable to purchase or order your textbooks. Each course on your timetable has a code that includes 4 letters and 5 numbers (eg. MATH 10002) as well as an instructor’s name. This information corresponds with your textbooks in the Bookstore . If you buy your books early, hold on to your receipt and keep your books in pristine condition until you are sure you will not need to return them. You can purchase/ order required course material at the Bookstore.
