We have selected these particular online resources because they are immediately useful and, in most cases, Canadian content. They are not intended to replace professional guidance but to give you tools to help you plan your career and education more effectively.
National Occupational Classification (NOC) is Canada's official career dictionary, with over 30,000 different job titles. Try either of these methods to use the NOC to create career ideas for yourself:
- Choose a broad NOC category and then browse career clusters to explore different occupations. Notice how they are clustered together by similarity of skill type and education level.
- If you have a few ideas to begin with (whether you think they are realistic or not), find job descriptions and related careers by searching specific occupational titles.
Browse Ontario Job Futures by broad category (e.g., business, health, science) and explore a range of options within than cluster.
Work Preferences Quiz is a brief survey of your interests which reports your general work interest themes and lists occupations matching your interest profile. Remember, they are just starting points but explore any of the ideas in the list that catch your eye… you never know where they might lead. You will be required to register (free).
Career Cruising includes an online interest assessment to help you identify occupations you may enjoy. Be sure that you do all three sets of questions (about 120 in total) to get the most accurate results.
Second Career is a program to provide laid-off workers with skills training to help them find jobs in high-demand occupations in Ontario financial support Second Career is a cost-sharing grant provided on the basis of need, so you may be asked to contribute what you can to your training or education.
