Oracle DBA Program
Enterprise Database Management - Ontario College Graduate Certificate:
Database management systems are the foundation on which most modern computer applications are built. Enterprises of all sizes and types owe their very livelihood to efficient database applications that can support transaction processing and strategic decision making. Accordingly, database management is one of the hottest fields in computing today.
This program has been carefully developed with input from industry experts and provides an exciting opportunity for students wishing to specialize in the database field. The program is offered evenings and Saturdays and combines in class and online delivery. Classes will be delivered in a Sheridan lab and students will have access to all equipment and software they need during class time.
Admission Requirements
Program Eligibility:
Two or three-year postsecondary diploma or degree
Plus
Computer literacy skills (operating systems, spreadsheets, and work processing) prior to admission.
Applicant Selection
Eligible applicants are selected on the basis of :
- Previous academic achievement
- Demonstrated experience and
- Response to a questionnaire
Students who have graduated with a Computer Science Degree or Computer Science Technology Diploma within the last three years may be eligible for direct entry into Term 2 of the program.
Upon completion of the program students will receive an Ontario College graduate Certificate and will be well prepared to write the Oracle 9I DBA certification exams, as well las the DB2 UDB V8.1 Family Fundamentals certification exam.
TERM 1
Two courses in the first term will be offered online: INFO51241 Database Operating Systems/UNIX and DBAS55298 Advanced Database Operating Systems. Each course will be 6 hours per week and there will be a week off between the two courses. The remaining four courses: DSGN50501 Data Modeling; PROG53802 Introduction to Java; PROG52887 Database Programming/Java and PROG52887 Middleware Programming, will each be offered over 3 weeks for 12 hours a week in class and 2 hours a week online. There will be a week off between each course.
TERM 2
In Term 2, four courses will be offered: Structured Query Language; Oracle Database 10g: Administration Workshop I, Oracle Database 10g: Administration Workshop II; IDM Universal Database DB2. Each course will be offered over four weeks with the first three weeks consisting of 12 hours in class and six hours online and the fourth week will be designated for exam preparation and will consist of 16 hours online. There will be no break between these courses.
NOTE:
All applications for this program go through OCAS, and do not apply directly to Sheridan.
Term 2 is offered in September and January. Term 1 is only offered in September.
