The Bachelor of Applied Arts (Interior Design) Program was the third interior design college program in Canada to offer a bachelor’s degree. Our innovative program has always kept pace with rising professional standards in the interior design industry.  We're recognized by the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO).

Sheridan’s Bachelor of Applied Arts (Interior Design) Program will provide the practical, hands-on training and creative approach that we built our reputation on, while also introducing more theoretical and research components. You’ll learn:

  • 2D and 3D computer software, including AUTOCAD, SketchUp, and various other design software programs
  • Project management
  • Sustainability and socially responsible practices
  • Architectural standards
  • Lighting and HVAC systems
  • Residential, corporate, commercial, hospitality, and other related sectors
  • Fire, safety and local building codes
  • Professional business practice

A Professional Learning Environment

At Sheridan, we’ve applied interior design principles to our own learning environments. They’re designed to look and feel like professional spaces, rather than classrooms. Interior design is a mobile computing program, which means you’ll have unlimited access to software, class lecture notes, PowerPoint presentations, reading lists, assignment outlines, and all other course resources — whether you’re on campus or off. See the Mobile Computing page for details.

We organize an annual field trip to New York, plus occasional trips to Chicago and other locations. You’ll even have an opportunity to take courses in Italy throughout the Spring/Summer session.

Above all, you’ll learn by doing. You’ll work with practicing interior design professionals who have extensive industry experience. You’ll also get a hands-on interior design education, graduating with an applied degree and a set of skills that translate directly to the workplace.

Interior design courses are taught at the Trafalgar Road Campus in Oakville, Ontario.

You’ll enter the job market with significant advantages over competitors, such as knowledge of AUTOCAD and the ability to write specs and read building codes. You’ll also have a 14-week work placement under your belt, completed at the end of your third year at Sheridan.

While many of our graduates will be able to go directly into established architectural or interior design firms, many other career paths beckon, including:

  • Government planning
  • Facilities management
  • Real estate development
  • Manufacturing
  • Independent consulting
  • Product representation for suppliers, dealers or manufacturers

Sheridan will ensure that all students admitted to the Bachelor of Applied Arts (Interior Design) Program during the period of consent will have the opportunity to complete the program within a reasonable time frame.
