IT Information Technology Support Services professionals play a critical role in today's technology-driven economy, helping end users work effectively with complex hardware, software, networks, websites and other sophisticated tools. In Sheridan's IT Support Services diploma program, students develop a specialized skill set that combines technological expertise with advanced communication and problem-solving abilities.
This versatile program offers many career options. Graduates are prepared to enter a wide range of careers in information technology and IT support, including customer support, technical writing, project management, corporate training, help desk supervision, database administration, Web design and more.
Hands-on Emphasis
The IT Information Technology Support Services program emphasizes hands-on learning. A large part of the program covers 'soft skills' such as customer support, team-based work, leadership, entrepreneurship and communication. In addition, you'll get direct experience in all areas of hardware, software and networking, including:
- Network design and maintenance
- Website design and maintenance
- Call tracking and customer service
- Mobile device support
- Databases
- Industry-standard software packages (including Microsoft Office)
IT Support Services is part of Sheridan’s mobile computing program — you’ll work on a laptop and have online access to lecture notes, assignments and other class material. See Mobile Computing for details.
Paid co-op work placements provide valuable IT support experience and professional contacts, while offsetting educational costs. Enrolment is limited through an additional selection process; see Cooperative Education for details.
IT Information Technology Support Services courses are taught at the Davis Campus in Brampton, Ontario.

Program Eligibility
Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, including these required courses:
- One English, Grade 12 (ENG4C or ENG4U)
plus
- Any Grade 12 math (C or U) or Grade 11 Functions (MCF3M) or Grade 11 Functions and Relations (MCR3U)
or
Mature student status. (See “Admissions” section for details.)
Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements will be invited to complete pre-admission tests in mathematics and English. Applicants asked to take the test are considered for admission to Term 1 contingent on receiving a minimum grade of 60% in both the pre-admission mathematics/English tests.
Applicants who are lacking the mathematics admission requirements for this program may be able to be admitted into this program with additional courses completed in their first year at Sheridan. There may be additional cost involved depending on the program.
Applicant Selection
Eligible applicants are selected on the basis of previous academic achievement (the average of their six highest senior-level credits, including required courses), and/or results of pre-admission testing.
Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements for this program will be assessed and advised individually and may be considered for other, related programs.
PREPARATION FOR APPLICATION
Applicants should communicate effectively, function well in team situations, remain calm under pressure, enjoy problem solving, be interested in the computer field, and be open to new and different ways of doing things. Anyone who chooses this field will be on the leading edge of change, helping others to adapt. Prior experience with computers is highly recommended.
