Ceramics Studio

The Ceramics Studio

The Ceramics Studio at Sheridan College is widely recognized as a major contributor to the development of the ceramic community in Canada and is generally recognized as one of the best in Canada. Since 1969, the ceramics program has been encouraging individuals to become creative, independent craftspeople

who are focused on the design and creation of expressive fine ceramic objects.

Occupying over 7,500 square feet of space, the ceramics studio at Sheridan contains top-rated facilities for clay mixing, hand-building, wheel-throwing, plaster-working, glazing and firing, as well as individual work spaces for third-year students.

Students in the program receive thorough instruction in the complete ceramic process from formation of clay bodies and glazes to the operation of different types of kilns and kiln construction. The teaching format includes demonstrations of processes and techniques, slide lectures and discussions of topics in

contemporary and historical ceramics. One-to-one teacher to student instruction, as well as group and individual critiques, are a vital part of the curriculum.

Our graduating students have the ability to set up and operate ceramic studios, produce work of excellence and individuality, and become self-employed entrepreneurs.
