Sheridan’s Crafts and Design programs represent the gold standard for Canadian craft instruction. Our award-winning faculty offer intensive, hands-on education in four disciplines: ceramics, fabrics, furniture and glass. Immersed in a community of dedicated craftspeople, you’ll develop outstanding creative and technical skill and work in world-class craft studios. You’ll begin making art in the first week of the program; by the third year you might be showing your work in high-profile craft shows and exhibitions, while developing the professional contacts and business sense you need for artistic and commercial success.

Realize Your Full Potential

Sheridan has played a leading role in the development of Canada’s ceramics design community. Occupying more than 7,500 square feet of space, our ceramics studio contains top-rated facilities for hand building, wheel throwing, kiln firing, plaster working, glazing and clay mixing. You’ll spend more time in the ceramics studio than anywhere else. It will come to seem like a second home — and faculty and fellow students will feel like a second family.

Our ceramics courses provide experience in all processes, from formation of clay bodies and glazes to the operation of gas, electric and wood-fired kilns. The curriculum also covers photography, drawing, design and business practice, as well as critical studies in contemporary ceramics and the history of the craft. One-on-one instruction and group critiques are both vital parts of the experience, as well as field trips to galleries, working studios and international conferences.

No ceramics school offers better preparation than Sheridan. You can realize your full potential here and establish a rewarding career as a productive working artist.

Crafts and Design – Ceramics courses are held at the Trafalgar Road Campus in Oakville, Ontario.

Since 1969, graduates of Sheridan’s ceramics program have established successful careers as creative, independent craftspeople. Our graduating students have the ability to set up and operate ceramic studios, produce work of excellence and individuality, and become self-employed entrepreneurs.

A significant percentage of Sheridan’s graduates go on to pursue advanced credentials in ceramic art and production, gaining BFAs, MFAs, and other postgraduate degrees. Our alumni teach at various institutions in Canada and the United States and are recognized as international leaders in the field.
