Hitting the Ground Running

Telecommunications Management, Systems Analyst

Graduation Year: 2002, 2000
I am part of a unique sector within the industry of information technology: Healthcare Information Systems. I am a Project Manager at GE Healthcare Canada. GE Healthcare provides Healthcare / Healthcare IT solutions to hospitals and clinics Worldwide. We offer physicians and healthcare professionals real time access to patient information and ways in which to collect, interpret, report and store this data. The need for this service will continue to grow as information access is a key driver for better healthcare.

Working in Healthcare IT allows me to see the direct positive impact my work has on hospital workflow and end result patient care. The field also keeps me engaged and challenged because it involves many facets of information technology, including networking, systems administration, security and programming (to name a few), as well as communication protocols unique to the industry.

Much of the technology has changed since I graduated, but the need to communicate and function as a business unit to provide great customer service has remained a constant. These collaborative and communications skills were cultivated through extensive group work at Sheridan, followed by independent reading, daily experience on the job and mentorship.

I entered the healthcare IT field following graduation. My experience at Sheridan has helped prepare me for the opportunity by providing a logical approach to problem solving and enabled me to hit the ground running with confidence.
