Corporate Communications
Graduation Year: 2003
graduated from Sheridan in 2003 from the Corporate Communications post-graduate program, having previously finished my Honours degree in English and Communications at Wilfrid Laurier University in 2002.
While at Sheridan I gained some great experience and worked happily as a Peer Mentor for the Community Building team. At the end of the year I began my Co-op at the Art Gallery of Ontario, which was originally a six-week placement, but, I turned it in to a six-month stay to learn as much as I could about media relations and communications!
From there I moved on to a public relations position at a small PR Agency, Jesson Artmont Communications, and then to the Canadian Opera Company. In August of 2006 I decided to leave Toronto and moved to Winnipeg to take on a one-year contract at The Winnipeg Art Gallery, as the Media and Community Relations Coordinator. I was covering a maternity leave and knew I’d only be there a year, but I welcomed the change of pace and environment. And after making it through the winter I decided to stay!
I have just recently accepted a new position with CAA Manitoba as Public Relations Coordinator and am every excited about it. I will be dealing with media, providing spokesperson support, organizing special events and representing the organization at meetings and trade shows.
I have met some great friends out here and learned Winnipeg is a very creative and friendly city, with some fantastic ‘undiscovered’ talent. While I had my struggles to get my career going, it has all paid off in the end. Never underestimate a positive attitude and holding on to your dream!
