Twenty-eight Sheridan students were honoured for demonstrating excellence in their respective discipline at the fifth annual Skills Sheridan competition earlier this month at Sheridan’s Magna Skilled Trades Centre, based at its Davis Campus in Brampton.

Skills Sheridan puts current Sheridan trades and technology students' education and skills to the test in a discipline-specific activity by requiring them to complete a task within a specified time period.

More than 100 students participated in this year’s edition of Skills Sheridan, which featured competitions in architectural technology and design; electrical installations; cloud computing; industrial mechanic millwrighting; mechatronics; plumbing; precision machining; web design and development; and welding.

In addition to recognizing top students in each event, Skills Sheridan helps faculty determine which students will represent Sheridan in the upcoming Skills Ontario provincial competition. Skills Ontario, which annually features 2,000 postsecondary students competing across 68 categories, will take place May 6-8 at the Toronto Congress Centre.

“It takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there and compete against your peers,” said Craig Brazil, Interim Associate Dean of the Magna School for the Skilled Trades, who served as the event’s master of ceremonies.

Numerous vendors also attended the competition to demonstrate new equipment and speak to students about career opportunities.

Following is a list of all top-three finishers at this year’s Skills Sheridan event:
