The role of the HR manager has grown steadily in importance. Today's HR management professionals contribute on a strategic level, dealing with talent acquisition, total rewards management, training and employee development, employment law, health and safety, labour relations, change management and HR metrics. At Sheridan, you'll learn to navigate the complexities of this role.
You'll take part in one term (three to four months) of co-op placement, which may be paid or unpaid. This opportunity for real-world experience in an HR environment can be an invaluable asset to your career.
This program includes nine courses required by the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA). Students who achieve an average of 70% on these courses with no mark below 65% will meet the coursework requirement to write the Comprehensive Knowledge Exam (CKE), making significant progress on the path to become a Certified Human Resources Professional in Ontario.
In order to be granted the Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation, you must take the nine courses, pass the CKE and the Employment Law exam, and document three years' experience in HR. To qualify for the CHRL, you must also have a degree in any discipline. Requirements for the CHRL are evolving and you're urged to check the HRPA website for the latest developments.
Our professors maintain strong relationships with industry and alumni who are regularly invited to program networking events.

This program contains a mandatory Co-op work term for all students.
Co-operative Education is a form of work-integrated learning that links classroom learning with work experience within a professional environment. Internship work terms are related to the academic studies of the student and may be paid or unpaid. The work terms provide an opportunity to learn by doing. You’ll apply theory to practice, develop a meaningful view of the working world, and cultivate an awareness of yourself as a professional.
Students receive in-class and 1-on-1 career education support to help prepare for the work term. The Co-op component is delivered by Sheridan’s Co-operative Education Office, which facilitates over 1,800 Co-op/Internship work terms per year Sheridan-wide.
