Suicide Awareness and Prevention Forum at Sheridan

November 23, 2016

Sheridan’s Social Services Worker, Gerontology, and Child & Youth Care Peer Mentors along with the Social Service Worker Program Social Justice and Action Committee students are pleased to be hosting The Suicide Awareness and Prevention Forum in partnership with Halton Distress Centre and with support from the Sheridan Student Union.

When:  Thursday November 24, 2016, 6:30 – 8:30 pm

Where:  Room J102, Trafalgar Road Campus

The purpose of this forum is to empower the Sheridan community by providing insight and knowledge that suicide is preventable. The evening will feature speakers from our very own Sheridan community.  The topic of suicide touches the lives of so many individuals, and we are pleased to be partnering with Distress Centre Halton who are committed to saving lives from suicide.

Approximately 11 people will end their lives by suicide today in Canada. Awareness is essential to changing this behaviour. The Suicide Awareness and Prevention Forum will help individuals understand why people consider suicide and attempt to take their own lives.  This forum will also teach the knowledge and skills to help others and/or themselves, by knowing that suicide is preventable, and what resources are available for support.
