Sheridan Student Wins Provincial Co-op Student of the Year Award

March 22, 2018

Shannon Walsh Moreau, a 4th-year student in Sheridan’s Honours Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences – Athletic Therapy program, has been named Provincial College Co-op Student of the Year by Education at Work Ontario (EWO). This is the fourth time in the past five years that a Sheridan student has earned this recognition, which comes with a $750 prize. Criteria for the award include strong academic performance, commitment to enhancing the profile of co-operative education, and making a difference in the local community.

The award recognizes Shannon’s exceptional co-op work performance, which included internships and field placements with both the Ottawa REDBLACKS and the Hamilton Tiger Cats of the Canadian Football League.  In these co-op positions, Shannon not only developed and implemented new rehabilitation and training programs, but also developed new treatment techniques.

Shannon was also the recipient of the 2017 Dr. Ron Taylor Award for demonstrating exemplary leadership qualities as well as strong interpersonal skills and character. In addition, she has volunteered countless hours to the Shepherds of Good Hope Christmas program and Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

“Shannon is very deserving of this award, and is an excellent example of the many Sheridan co-op and internship students who put their learning to work every term,” said Cory Latimer, Manager of Co-operative Education at Sheridan. She is also one of five students selected as Sheridan’s Co-op Students of the Year. The other four winners include:

Harpriya Kaur, CST - Software Development and Network Engineering

Vinod Parathiyar, Electromechanical Engineering Technology

Gursimar Singh Anand, Honours Bachelor of Business Administration – Marketing Management

Emily Terry, Honours Bachelor of Animation

“The employers who hire our students tell us that they enter their work terms ready to hit the ground running,” said Latimer. “We’re told they make an observable, positive impact from day one.”  Shannon, along with her fellow Sheridan Co-op Student of the Year Award winners, will be honoured at a special ceremony on April 4.
