For Immediate Release: January 26, 2012
Oakville, Ontario

Theatre 20, Toronto’s artist-led musical theatre company, recently announced its inaugural season. Among the three productions scheduled is Raindogs by Canadian Andrew MacBean, which will be workshopped and produced in partnership with Sheridan’s Canadian Music Theatre Project. “Theatre 20’s founding artists are some of the most established and successful musical theatre performers in the country, and this is both a great artistic and mentorship opportunity for our Music Theatre Performance students,” said Michael Rubinoff, Associate Dean of Visual and Performing Arts at Sheridan.

The workshop will take place in the late spring at Sheridan, followed by public performances in both Oakville and Toronto. The full production of Raindogs will follow in Theatre 20’s 2013-2014 season.

Sheridan’s Canadian Music Theatre Project is Canada’s first incubator for the development of new musical theatre works by Canadian and international composers, lyricists and book-writers. “Establishing a permanent headquarters for the development of new musicals is a culturally significant event in Canada. Sheridan is Canada’s largest arts school and this ground-breaking initiative continues its proactive role as the country’s centre for creative innovation,” said Michael Rubinoff, Associate Dean of Performing Arts at Sheridan, and Toronto theatre producer.

Theatre 20 is an artist-led, story-driven company with a focus on developing and presenting original Canadian musicals as well as re-imagining existing repertoire from both the national and international canons. Founding artists include Colm Wilkinson, Louise Pitre, Brent Carver, Juan Chioran and Adam Brazier.
