Business and industry leaders are invited to come together at Sheridan College on October 31 to learn how to comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

As of January 1, 2012, private sector organizations within Ontario were required to comply with parts of the AODA. The act requires that all providers of goods and services establish policies, procedures and practices that are consistent with the legislation.

“We are excited to host Alfred Spencer, Director of Outreach and Compliance at the Accessibility Directorate of Ontario (ADO), and help businesses become more age-friendly by complying with the AODA,” says Cathryn Oliver, BA:IEN Coordinator. “As Ontario moves towards becoming fully accessible by 2025, the ADO’s goal is to reach as many of the 360,000 private sector businesses in the province as possible,”

BA:IEN is the Business of Aging: Information Exchange Network, an initiative of the Sheridan Elder Research Centre, which meets quarterly to discuss the changing needs of aging consumers.

Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Trafalgar Road Campus of Sheridan College. Please contact Cathryn at 905-845-9430 x 32201 to reserve your spot today. The cost of the event is $15 for non-BA:IEN members.

The Sheridan Elder Research Centre provides a unique environment for applied research into areas of practical concern and immediate relevance to older Canadians. SERC benefits from the diversity of Sheridan College’s programs and provides a friendly, accessible applied research environment where older adults from the community not only participate in research, but contribute to its direction.
