Creativity in Bloom at Square One Courtesy of Sheridan’s Visual Merchandising Arts Program

A new window display at Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga features the work of second-year students from Sheridan’s Visual Merchandising Arts (VMA) program. These works were part of a larger exhibition showcasing the talents of graduating VMA students called BrandX8 – FLORA, which was held in April at the Only One Gallery in Toronto.

Inspired by the Cosmic Gentleman poem In the Garden of Earthly Delights, BrandX8 - FLORA paralleled the literary work in its themes and ideas of discovery, indulgence, innocence and new beginnings. “Students explored the dark and light sides of the poem to create the lush, striking and fantastical elements of their pop-up displays and were inspired by the tagline ‘creativity in bloom,’” said Diane Spiridoulias, Professor of VMA at Sheridan.

In January 2017 the VMA program moved from the Trafalgar Campus in Oakville to the new building at the Hazel McCallion Campus in Mississauga, which is adjacent to the shopping centre. “We’re so excited to form this great relationship with Square One and are honoured for the opportunity to collaborate,” said Spiridoulias. “It’s a natural and welcome partnership for neighbouring institutions.”

The Square One display was installed mid-May by Spiridoulias and VMA faculty Louise Campbell, Louise Franklin and Karen Kritzer. You can see the display at Square One Shopping Centre on Level 2 above the food court until June 20.
