The Cook’s Temptation: Book Launch at Sheridan

February 06, 2014

The Sheridan Elder Research Centre (SERC) is pleased to present a special event featuring the launch of The Cook’s Temptation, the first novel by Joyce Wayne, a Sheridan professor.

When:                Wednesday, February 12, 2 – 3:30 pm

Where:              S235 (SCAET Auditorium), Trafalgar Road Campus

What:               Following a brief reading from the novel, Joyce will be interviewed by Pat Spadafora, SERC Director, about writing, creativity, and the possibilities that open to us as we age.

Although officially retired from Sheridan, Joyce continues to teach Journalism at Sheridan on a part-time basis.  She is also an award-winning literary journalist, a former editor at Quill & Quire and editorial director at McClelland & Stewart Publishers.  Recently, she published short fiction in TOK:6: Writing the New Toronto and was long-listed for the Exile Short Fiction Award.  Joyce considers herself a literary late bloomer; she returned to fiction after a lengthy hiatus and is following her dream of writing the novels that she has imagined for years.

About the Sheridan Elder Research Centre:

For ten years, the Sheridan Elder Research Centre (SERC) has worked to identify, develop, test and implement innovative strategies that result from applied research conducted at Sheridan to improve the quality of life for older adults and their families. During this time, SERC has conducted over 60 research, evaluation and design projects, hired 46 Sheridan student research assistants, and presented at over 50 conferences. Its projects include: using technology to enhance cognition and support aging in place; examining how participation in the creative arts, such as writing fiction and the performing arts, such as dance, promotes healthy aging; and connecting business and industry leaders through a networking series to exchange resources and best practices.
