Become a Peer Tutor

Peer tutors are Sheridan students who are selected based on their grades and a faculty reference.  Peer tutors provide tutoring to students in courses other than those supported by the Learning Assistants in the Tutoring Centre and through Sheridan’s PAL program.

As a Peer Tutor, you will:

  • Work one-on one with another Sheridan student on campus to tutor them in a course you have successfully completed
  • Provide each student with 10 hours of tutoring per course, per term, or 15 hours per course, per term if the student is registered with Accessible Learning (AL)
  • Work with your student to provide skills and tools for their academic success

As a Peer Tutor, you get:

  • $14/hr Flexible hours on campus to suit your academic schedule
  • Useful work experience that demonstrates your leadership and mentoring skills
  • Stronger understanding of subject material

To Become a Peer Tutor:

You must have:

  • At least an overall 75% grade average
  • At least a grade of 80% in the course for which you want to tutor
  • A reference from the instructor of the course for which you want to tutor

After the Tutoring Centre contacts you with a Peer Tutoring request:

  • Complete the self-directed online training manual
  • Review Payroll Deadlines
  • Visit the Tutoring Centre to write a qualification quiz:
    • Davis Campus J104 (ext. 5328)
    • Trafalgar Campus C104 (ext. 8326)
    • HMC Campus A118B (ext. 5764)

NOTE: Please do not provide peer tutoring until your hiring is confirmed, and until we have informed you that you have been matched with a student.
