Login to RefWorks

First time logging in? Be sure to Sign Up for a New Account.


RefWorks has moved to new U.S. RefWorks servers as of December 18, 2014

Update your bookmarks! The new URL for accessing your RefWorks account is:  Links on Sheridan’s website will be updated to reflect this change.

You may be assigned a new login name.

  • If your current login does not work please click on "Forgot Your Login Information?"
  • Enter the email account you used to create your original RefWorks account.
  • Your new login name will be emailed to you. The password should be the same.
  • You can change your login name in the profile settings once you have logged in.

RefGrab-It Bookmarklet – If you use the RefGrab-it bookmarklet, you will need to update your bookmarklet so it can send data to the proper server. To update RefGrab-it we recommend that you delete your current bookmark and, while logged into your new account located at, follow these instructions to create the new bookmarklet:

Write-N-Cite - If you have Write-N-Cite installed, it will need to be replaced with a version that will link to the US RefWorks servers. Uninstall your current version (if any) and log into your new account located at to download the new version.


What is RefWorks?

RefWorks is an online citation management tool that allows users to import, organize, and create bibliographies of their references for academic assignments.

What do I do if I need help?

Tutorials are available via the RefWorks Youtube Channel.  Also see the RefWorks Help File, and RefWorks Guide. Online help and video tutorials are also available from the RefWorks login page.

Technical Requirements


  • Internet Explorer Version 7.0 or later (Windows only)
  • Firefox 3.X or later (Windows, Mac and Linux)
  • Safari 3 and later (Mac)
  • Google Chrome (Windows only) Note: RefGrab-It does not work with Google Chrome

Word Processors:

  • Word for Windows 2000 or later
  • Word for Mac 2004 or later

You can also use any word processor including Ami-Pro, FrameMaker, OpenOffice, StarOffice, Word Perfect or any other program which allows you to save your files as RTF.

For Write-N-Cite for Windows:

  • Microsoft Word 2007 and 2010
  • Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.

For Write-N-Cite for Macintosh:

  • Microsoft Word for Mac 2008 and 2011
  • Mac OS X version 10.5, 10.6 & 10.7 (Leopard, Snow Leopard & Lion)

Note: Write-N-Cite is only compatible with MS Word. All other word processing software users should use One Line/Cite View for their documents

RefWorks is compliant with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (U.S.). Screen readers such as MS Narrator or JAWS should automatically detect the compliant interface.
