Other Services & Accommodations

Please be advised that this list of services and accommodations is not automatic for every student. Students who are eligible to receive accommodations will meet with Accessible Learning staff to determine the most appropriate accommodations and services available to meet individual needs.

Testing Accommodations

Eligibility for extended test time, scribes or readers can be determined in consultation with the Accessible Learning Advisor. Tests must be booked seven days in advance of test date through the Assessment Centre at the Hazel McCallion, Davis and Trafalgar campuses.

Notetaking and Photocopying Notes

Instructors and/or students may identify note takers with the assistance of the Accessible Learning staff.

Extended Program (Reduced Program Courseload)

Students may reduce the number of courses they take at one time. This may be arranged in consultation with the Program Coordinator, Academic Advisor and Accessible Learning.

A limited number of lockers are reserved for Accessible Learning.  Please contact your AL Advisor if you require access to one of these lockers. Please note there is a fee for lockers.

Taped Texts/Alternate Format Texts

Students requiring books on CD must contact Accessible Learning who will refer you to the Assistive Technologist to have your order placed for the required materials. Due to copyright laws, students must purchase the book and provide receipts for proof of purchase.

Print Enlargements

Equipment for enlarging print is available at Accessible Learning.

Bursary for Students with Disabilities

Students must be eligible to receive OSAP in order to qualify for the bursary. Forms must be approved by the Accessible Learning Advisor or Assistive Technologist and forwarded to Financial Aid for consideration.

Accessible Parking

For long-term or permanent disabilities students must obtain an Accessible Parking Permit issued by the Ministry of Transportation.

Tuition Subsidy for Students with Permanent Disabilities

  • Students registered with Accessible Learning who require the accommodation of a reduced course load for a permanent disability, as outlined by documentation, may be eligible for reduced tuition fees for the final courses required to complete their academic program.
  • Documentation must be provided to your AL Advisor in order to verify a permanent disability as well as to support the accommodation of a reduced course load (see “Registering With Us”)
  • If eligible for this policy, you are required to pay the standard tuition fee for the standard duration of your program until the full program tuition fee has been paid.
  • After the full program tuition fee has been paid, you will pay upfront for the remaining courses, plus any additional college ancillary fees (as per calendar).  After full calculations are made by the Registrar's Office, you may be eligible to receive a refund for the final courses less $20 per course until your academic program is complete.
  • This policy covers one program at a time.  If you change your program during your study period at Sheridan College, your eligibility will be re-evaluated from the start of your new program
  • This policy covers only courses that you have paid for and completed successfully.  It does not apply to courses that must be taken again due to late withdrawal, unsuccessful completion or upgrading.  Courses must be withdrawn within the first 10 days of classes in order to avoid it being listed on a transcript as an attempt.
  • If you receive OSAP, it is your responsibility to notify the Financial Aid Office regarding reduced course load as well as of your eligibility for this policy.

For further information please schedule an appointment with your Accessible Learning Advisor to discuss your eligibility for the tuition fee policy.
