Business World

Career

I joined Ford in Oakville in their management training program in ’75. I worked for Ford in a variety of areas, including the parts, service and sales areas, learning the car business from the manufacturing side. I left Ford after several years and briefly worked in the office furniture business before returning to the automotive field in 1986.

I joined Honda in 1989 and have worked my way up through the organization to my current position as VP of Automobile Sales, responsible for both the Acura and Honda sales divisions.

I manage a staff of over 100 people. We have accomplished much at Honda including an all -ime sales record for this past year for the corporation. I am very proud of the fact that many of my reports are people who I have mentored through my years at this corporation.

Personally

I have been married for 27 years to Sheila with two kids – now adults. My daughter works in the food industry (and wants to be a chef) and my son is still in college (Seneca). Sheila and I have been able to travel to many places in the world – both on business and pleasure. This is our favourite pastime, along with golf.

Sheridan Memories

The camaraderie of our Business class, watching Canada beat Russia in ’72 in the Sheridan cafeteria, playing hockey for Dave’s Dirty Demons, traveling to Montreal to watch our football team win the National championship.

Faculty

I think the vast majority of the Business faculty were interested, engaged and very supportive. I think of people like Dave Tinker, Rollie Willis and Frank Baron who all seemed to have the same approach – teach us what we had to know, impart their real world experience to us, and do it with a sense of humour. We worked hard but had fun doing it.

Sheridan was a great place to begin my quest for a career in the business world. Proof in point is our graduating class of ’75 – all are very successful either in the corporate world or as entrepreneurs.
