June 16, 2020

Over 30 Sheridan students and graduates worked on films that will be showcased at this year’s Oakville Film Festival.

Running virtually from June 17 to June 22, the festival includes five feature films, three documentaries and 68 Canadian shorts.

Sheridan students and alumni worked on nine of the films screening as part of the Local Shorts Showcase, available June 17 at 7 p.m. EST.

Notably, seven Bachelor of Film and Television students worked on 541: A Place for Community – a six-minute film that follows Chef Leah Janzen as she dedicates herself to 541 – Eatery and Exchange, a community kitchen based in Hamilton, ON.

Sixteen students worked on Pawsitive Impact – a nine-minute about certified facility dog Ajax – the newest addition to the Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services team.

I Am Here director Amalia Williamson (Bachelor of Film & Television ’19), Willa director and screenwriter Corey Mayne (Media Arts ’07), Mute director Constance Hilton (Media Arts ’07), Online director Courtenay Lazorka (Creative Writing ’08), Cosmo director and producer Sarah Gonyea (Bachelor of Film & Television ’19), 541 co-directors Amanda Wright and Gabriel Dinardo (Bachelor of Film & Television, students) and Dagwood’s Brig director Alec Macri (Bachelor of Film & Television student) will be participating in a Q&A as part of the festival programming on June 17 at 9:15 p.m.

To celebrate Father’s Day, the festival will be screening a series of free films as part of the Family Fun Shorts Fest programming.

A Q&A with the short filmmakers will follow the screenings, including 2016 Art Fundamentals alumni Matthew Walton (director, The Lighthouse Man) and Tyler Pacana (director, How Does Animation Work).
