Sheridan Pride Front and Centre at Oscar Party

February 23, 2015

It was a night of robots, dragons, boxtrolls and lots of Sheridan pride. Over 150 Sheridan students, alumni, faculty and friends gathered to cheer on our three alumni nominees at an Oscar party on campus February 22. With three of the five films nominated for Best Animated Feature directed by animators who studied at Sheridan, there was certainly cause for celebration. Watching Chris Williams take the Oscar for

Big Hero 6 was the icing on the cake!

The evening kicked off with red-carpet coverage at 7:00pm in The Marquee Pub at the Trafalgar Campus which was decked out in honour of the three nominated films. Michael Rubinoff, Associate Dean in Sheridan’s Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design led the evening’s festivities which included Oscar trivia, prizes and special guests. Among the speakers were Jeff Zabudsky, Sheridan President & CEO; Ronni Rosenberg, Dean; and Angela Stukator, Associate Dean, both of the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design.

In addition to watching the Oscar telecast, proud Sheridan revellers enjoyed having their caricatures drawn by Sheridan illustration students and hamming it up at a do-it-yourself photo booth.

Collective shouts of excitement greeted the announcement of Big Hero 6 as the Best Animated Feature winner. Party guests then raised a toast to the film’s director, Chris Williams, and our other nominees, Graham Annable (The Boxtrolls) and Dean DeBlois (How to Train Your Dragon 2).
