Sheridan alumni lend talents to Golden Globe-nominated projects

December 10, 2018

Sheridan alumni lent their talents to projects that are up for top honours at this year’s Golden Globe Awards.

Nominees of the 76th annual Golden Globes, which recognize excellence in film and television, were announced Thursday, Dec. 6. Sheridan grads played a role in the films vying for Best Motion Picture, Drama; Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical; and Best Motion Picture, Animated. The winners will be announced on Jan. 6, 2019.

Mary Poppins Returns, which is up for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, boasts three Sheridan Animation grads on its team, while 16 alumni contributed to Black Panther, nominated in the Best Motion Picture, Drama category.

Alumni worked on four of the five projects nominated for Best Animated Motion Picture, including Incredibles 2, Isle of Dogs, Ralph Breaks the Internet and Spider-Man: In the Spider-Verse.

Sheridan has a rich history of success in the category. In 2017, Zootopia — which featured the work of nearly a dozen Sheridan alumni — won the award for best animated motion picture. Dean DeBlois, a 1990 graduate, won in 2015 for writing and directing How to Train Your Dragon 2.
