New Sheridan Alumni Email System Launched in November

We are pleased to announce that Sheridan has replaced the current email services for all students and alumni with email and calendar services powered by Microsoft Office 365 Cloud Services.

Sheridan made the change to Microsoft Office 365 to provide a better level of service to alumni, says John McCormick, Director Information and Communications Technology for the college.

“The new system offers alumni secure, anywhere access to their email, greater capacity (up to 25 GB of mail storage), calendaring capabilities, and better integration with smart phones than the old mail system.” Other services offered in the Office 365 platform will be evaluated and may be added in the future.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

When was the new system put in place?

Sheridan began sending all new email messages to the Office 365 email system on November 3, 2012. To access the new Office 365 email system, open a web browser and login with your Sheridan user id and password at: http://alumnimail.sheridancollege.ca

Will my old email be available in the new system?

Sheridan will not be transferring existing alumni email to the Office 365 platform. However, the old email system will still be available for a number months following the transition to allow you to move your own email if you wish. You can access the old email system through a web browser until April 30, 2013 at: https://mail.sheridanc.on.ca

Instructions on how to transfer your existing Sheridan email to the new environment are available on the I.T. website.
We recommend you check your account on the old system for any messages that may have arrived during the transition process to ensure you have not missed any new email. You can also access both the old and new email systems via the links in the Access Sheridan portal.

Will my Sheridan email address stay the same?

The domain referenced in your Sheridan email will be changing to ‘@sheridancollege.ca’. However, any mail sent to you with your old email address (e.g. userid@sheridanc.on.ca) will still be routed to your inbox. These redirects will be active and available indefinitely. Any new email you send will appear to recipients with your new ‘@sheridancollege.ca’ email address. If you have references to your current Sheridan email address in résumés, electronic signatures, etc. you should update them to reflect the domain change.

I currently have my Sheridan email forwarded to my personal account on another system—will my Sheridan email continue to be forwarded?

Sheridan IT configured the new Office 365 email system to preserve email forwarding for all alumni accounts that had forwards set up on the old email system. We encourage everyone that has email forwards in place to login to the new system to check that the correct forwarding information is in place and to ensure that no email messages were accidentally delivered to the new system before the forwarding information was configured.

What will my email quota be in the new system?

In Office 365 you get a 25 GB mailbox that you can keep for life.

What is the maximum message size (including attachments) that can be sent or received?

In the new system the maximum size of an email you can send or receive (including attachments) is 25 MB.

Can I access Office 365 Sheridan alumni email account on my smartphone or tablet?

You can configure your smart phone to access the Office 365 email system. Specific instructions for common devices is available here
