Mechanical Engineering Technology grad wins award for best publication

November 23, 2015

Hargurdeep Singh was part of a Sheridan team that received the Publications Award from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) last month. Hargurdeep (Mechanical Engineering Technology-Design & Drafting Coop, 2015), pictured far left, was honoured with Farzad Rayegani (Associate Dean), pictured far right, and Godfrey Onwubolu (Sheridan Professor) both in the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering & Technology. They were Hargurdeep’s academic and research advisors on the paper he completed as a student.

The group was recognized for the research paper entitled “Cost Optimization of FDM Additive Manufactured Parts” which was published by American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Hargurdeep was also secondary author in another paper entitled “Functional Prototyping and Tooling of FDM Additive Manufactured Parts” which was also published by ASME.

The publication award is the latest honour for Hargurdeep who built an impressive list of achievements by the time he graduated. Here are just a few: President and Founder of Sheridan Engineering Association, Chair of American Society of Mechanical Engineers Sheridan College Chapter (first ASME college student Chapter in Canada), Ontario Co-op Student of the Year, and Sheridan Student Senator. He was also Project Lead for the Creative MakerSpace Hub launched in 2014 by Sheridan’s Centre for Advanced Manufacturing (CAMDT) and the City of Brampton. Earlier this year, Hargurdeep received the Young Achiever Award from the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce and is currently serving as a Director in the Small Medium Enterprise Committee.

A former OACETT Ontario Student Representative, Hargurdeep he has been involved with the Ontario Chapter since 2012. “Sheridan and OACETT involvement provided me with not only professional development but also the opportunity to give back to the community,” he said. “I believe that is the underlying career goal for all engineers.”

He is now bringing the skills and experience he gained at Sheridan to his role as 3D Printing Business Development Specialist at The Printing House in downtown Toronto.

Congratulations, Hargurdeep!
