Mechanical Engineering Grad Wins Hatch’s Summer Student Showcase

September 16, 2014

Congratulations to Kenneth Faria, 2014 Mechanical Engineering Technology alumnus, on his win for “Best Overall” demonstration at Hatch’s Summer Student showcase. The showcase involved students from top schools across Canada, with most coming from universities. An avid member of Sheridan’s student applied research team at the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Design Technologies, Kenneth worked closely with mentors Dr. Shaun Ghafari and Dr. Farzad Rayegani on a series of mechanical design projects and research partnerships with local small businesses that led to his summer internship at the Mississauga office of Hatch, a global engineering consulting and management company.

“Drs. Rayegani and Ghafari gave me the environment to explore the applied research field, helping me expand not only my technical knowledge but my communications skills as well,” said Kenneth. “Without their guidance, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

Kenneth made the most out of his college educational experience. “Things started happening for me when I decided to integrate myself into the program and explore the opportunities available to me at Sheridan.”

As a member of the Sheridan Engineering Club, Kenneth was part of the student team that entered a car in the North American Formula North competition for the first time in May 2014.

Kenneth’s experience through the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering & Technology speaks to Sheridan’s commitment to an integrated engineering curriculum based on the Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate (CDIO) framework, an essential platform that creates ongoing learning opportunities between industry, faculty, and students.
